The last known Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake happened on January 26, 1700.  Scientists have found that at least seven earthquakes around magnitude 9 have occurred over the last 3,500 years, an average of one every 200-800 years

The bad news

This major earthquake is guaranteed to happen again. Odds that the "big one" will hit in the next 50 years are 1 in 3.  

The good news

It's something that we can prepare for. Taking a few simple steps to prepare can make a huge difference in surviving the quake and building a resilient community in Bellingham.
